tiger and spider

Under a blanket of shadow there stalked a tiger in the night
And woe betide the victims that did fall into her sight
Under a blanket of shadow there stalked a spider in the trees
A trap of silent cunning he had spun between the leaves
Under a blanket of mist the spider's cunning came undone
Orbs of water lay upon the web that he had spun
And as the blanket parted and revealed the moon's fair glow
Upon the water orbs a silver shine it did bestow

A silver shine that danced upon the hungry tiger's eyes
As she studied tiny duplicates of multitudes of skies
Then the spider saw the tiger, and away began to crawl
But his movement trapped the spider in the midst of tiger's thrall
His hasty undulation, his energetic flounce
Tempted greedy tiger and with fearsome speed she pounced
Pounced and caught the spider in a cup between her paws
Trapped on softest flesh amidst a ring of deadly claws

Said the spider; "I do not know of what attraction you might see
That you would snatch me down from out my web high in the tree"
Said the tiger; "You intrigue me, I must know of what you are
That you can spin a trap in which to catch the very stars"
Said the spider; "Why would you keep me? To you I am no use
And while I can't defeat you I will fight until I'm loose"
Said the tiger; "Please don't struggle, for my nature is to kill
That which won't submit itself completely to my will"
